The process is gradual and carefully controlled, working with the natural growth of the jaw to achieve results that would be much harder — or impossible — to achieve later in life. When used at the right time, it's one of the most impactful things we can do for a growing child's oral health.

At Essex Orthodontics, treatment begins with a comprehensive digital evaluation — no goopy impressions, no guesswork. Dr. Clanaman takes a whole-picture approach, assessing not just the teeth but the jaw structure, airway, and facial development to determine whether an expander is the right fit. If it is, the appliance is custom-fitted and gradually adjusted over a period of weeks or months. Most children adapt quickly and the process is far more comfortable than it sounds.
